Punks Backyard Ultra: The ultimate test of endurance - a new exciting athletic challenge Hello everyone, Welcome to the third edition of Punk's Backyard Ultra, a unique athletic race concept created by Lazarus Lake. Known for its grueling test of endurance and mental toughness, it is being held in North Macedonia for the third time in order to redefine the limits of athletic endurance. With its exciting but terrifying challenge, this ultra-marathon, hosted by the spa complex Negorski Banji, and organized by the TREX Association from Skopje, assisted by members of AK 7mi Noemvri Gevgelija, is ready to attract the most determined and adventurous runners.
RULES Punk's Backyard Ultra is a testament to the human spirit and endurance, on October 25th it invites you to push your psycho-physical limits. The format of the race is really simple, but uniquely challenging – you run a 6.7km lap within an hour, and once the hour is up, the next lap begins. The race continues until only one runner is left standing - a true test of mental toughness and physical endurance. Backyard Ultra Rules
TEAM COMPETITION At the same time, at this year's backyard, we will have the opportunity to compete in teams consisting of 4 people. Give yourself a team name and disguise yourself if you want or wear the same jerseys. Team members will be registered during the technical meeting for the race which will start at 09:00 on October 25th at the starting finish line. You each enter as an individual runner and run as normal, but your laps will also count together for the team competition. In standard running events, pacers are against the rules. Backyard ultras are a different sport. Every Backyard is to some degree a team event, and participants are expected to work together to help everyone run the longest possible distance. Only the rule against receiving help outside the start or finish line applies, but participants can share anything they carry with each other. If one athlete forgets water, they can receive fluids brought by another.
LOCATION AND ACCOMMODATION https://maps.app.goo.gl/NRusrCBueM6RCA7i8 The event promises to be an exciting and unforgettable experience, with a tempting trail route through the Velotlon Park near village of Negorci, 2 km from the town of Gevgelija (nearby border with Greece), which is laid out to test the endurance of the runners and showcase the natural beauty of the surroundings. To arrive at the spa complex, follow the signs from both the highway and the regional road for Negorski Banji. Parking is free, in front of the baths and on the service street in the spa complex. Picking up the starting number will begin from 9 AM at the start-finish inside the spa park opposite the restaurant. The start of the first lap is scheduled at exactly 10:00 on Saturday, October 25. We recommend accommodation in the spas at Hotel Bozhur according to prices from Hotel Kala https://www.negorskibanji.com.mk/hotels Of course, there are apartments and other accommodation facilities throughout Gevgelija and Negorci.
COURSE The trail is 80% paved MTB trail on dirt road, 10% on football pitch grass and 10% asphalt. The markings are with a marking tape and signs placed at a distance of ten meters. The course starts from the park in front of the hotel restaurant and runs through the parking lot towards the regional road. Carefully cross the regional road and enter the Velothlon MTB park where the main part of the distance of each yard is. You run on an excellently laid 2-meter wide mtb track, with many possibilities for shortening! That's why we leave it to your ethics and consciousness that each lap you run is exactly 6.7 km! After 6 kilometers through the Velotlon park, the regional road is crossed again, be careful, although the traffic will be regulated all the time by the police. And finally you run through the football pitch before reaching the finish line. The GPS file is posted in race website. The most successful Backyard Ultra runners aim for a rest time of 10 to 18 minutes, attempting to run 6,706 km in 42 to 50 minutes. 6.7km = 1 LAP 40km = 6 LAPS 100km = 15 LAPS 161km = 24 LAPS 201km = 30 LAPS
START – FINISH CORAL and LOGISTICS Closed tents with a total square footage of 72m2 will be placed in the start-finish plane, which will serve for rest and recuperation before each new round. There will be a complete refreshment station in there with water, coffee, tea, electrolytes and sodas, fruit, mild and salty snacks, bread, ajvar, cheeses. At the checkpoint we will have cold sandwiches, pizza and hot meal and vegetable stew, and that in a mutual agreement as to what time it will be served. But we also ask you to bring your own food and liquids as a supplement to share with other runners - let's make a friendly atmosphere - let everyone bring homemade cakes, rolls, jam, sweets, cheese and anything else you like to share. Also, if you have it, bring camping chair, a table and a cot if possible (tables and chairs will be available from the restaurant), maybe your own tent if you want privacy, a blanket for the night and a plate, glass and cutlery. Take a bather and a towel so that after the race you can regenerate your muscles in the extraordinary healing spa water (entrance to the pools is charged). The toilets from the Negorski banji restaurant are available for use by all participants (10m away from the start), but also while the kitchen is working, food and drinks can be ordered from there.
EQUIPMENT In terms of equipment, we advise you to wear summer-autumn running clothes (that is, for day and night running), bring a spare change of clothes, two pairs of sneakers to change into, don't forget headlamps (spare batteries or charger mandatory, there are sockets ) and the use of hiking poles is prohibited. Of course, take personal hygiene, first aid, band-aids, bandages, vaseline, emergency blanket and everything you normally need for an ultra-marathon. You can run without any mandatory equipment, for example without a water bottle, without a backpack, without a cell phone, etc.
ASSITANTS and AUDIENCE Motivate your assistants to write banners, take cheerleading props, play music on loudspeakers, dress up, have fun. Advise them to dress appropriately for the weather. We would like to ask you to pay special attention to the traffic signals installed at the intersection near Negorski banji, because there will be a road crossing twice in each lap during the race.
Have fun and great success!
